If you've got what it takes to be a high school and/ or university tutor, then please register for an account. Please take into account the registration requirements when applying. We will then reply to your application within one business day.

Step Two

Profile

After approval, we will then request information about you to be publicly displayed on your online Tutor Lim profile for the world to see! You will also be given login details to access your personal Tutor Lim account.

Step Three

Log

After each lesson occurs with a student (either in-person or online), you simply need to log the lesson details in your Tutor Lim account and we will collect payment from the student. No need to worry about administrative hassles again!

Step Four

Payment

Unlike most agencies that pay monthly, Tutor Lim pays fortnightly via bank transfer! As we securely store our customers’ credit cards on file, you’re guaranteed to be paid when a lesson occurs, so you never have to worry about chasing up payments from students or parents!

How does payroll work?

All tutoring events and duration are recorded via Teachworks calendar. Total hours and wages will be automatically calculated.

How do I get paid? and how frequently do I get paid?

Every tutoring hour you conduct, will be recorded in our system. At Tutor Lim, payroll is released every fortnight. At the start of week, after the closure of previous fortnight. Timesheet closure usually happens on the Wednesday/ Thursday. Tutors will get paid on the following Monday/ Tuesday.

What type of employment am I under?

It's varies for all tutors. By default, you will be engaged under casual employment. Under casual employment, all tutors are classified as 'independent contractors' rather than 'employees'. For part-time or full-time employment, information will be shared during onboarding and tutors will be advised accordingly by our staff members. Employment type depends on how active you are within the organisation.

If I am put on trial, do I still get paid for my first lesson?

Yes! As long as you passed your trial session, the hours conducted will be included in first time payroll.

How do I qualify as a tutor?

To qualify as a tutor, you will have to go through all onboarding steps

What if I fail my first trial lesson?

If you fail your first trial lesson with your appointed student, you will not be accepted to the community. Depending on the scenario, you may be given a second opportunity (To be evaluate case-to-case). Candidate who is unsuccessful in his/ her first trial, usually fail to complete one (or more) of the following items:

  1. Fail to create rapport with the student.
  2. Fail to come prepared to the lesson.
  3. Fail to deliver the lesson or unable to answer any questions being asked by the student during the lesson.

How do I set up my tutor account?

This is for QUALIFIED tutors only!!

At Tutor Lim, we use Teachworks!

  1. Open the Welcome email from Teachworks!.
  2. Click the link CONFIRM MY ACCOUNT.
  3. Your username is your email address–set up a password.
  4. Log into your new account at https://tutorlim.teachworks.com/accounts/login.
  5. If you accidentally deleted the welcome email or can’t find it, just let us know and we’ll send you another email.

How do I cancel or reschedule a session?

This is for QUALIFIED tutors only!!

  1. You must give at least 24 hours’ notice to ensure that your account isn’t charged for a missed session.
  2. Read our Communities of Practice operational guidelines for tutors.
  3. Communicate directly with your student by using the phone number or email listed in your Teachworks account.
  4. If more support needed, you may contact us. Please indicate the first and last name of the student, date and time of the session you need to cancel or reschedule, and the best way to reach you to discuss the change.

What is a student brief?

A Student Brief is a form of communication to share student background, university and specific challenges faced/highlighted by our students.

What is an intro email?

An Intro Email is an exchange of student contact details; a template for an introduction by the tutor (to student/s), as well as to place for scheduling details.

How long do I have once I received a student brief (or a new job)?

It’s first come, first serve! Student briefs are usually sent to multiple tutors who are aligned to task content — hand picked by our technical officers. Once you received a student brief, if you choose to accept the job, please do so at your earliest convenience to avoid any disappointment. Candidate who delays in responding back may find him/ herself losing tutoring opportunities. Usually within 1-4 hours the job will be taken.

When should I be sending the intro email to my student?

Once you received “intro email” communication from us, please make first contact with your student within 12 hours. Candidate who fails to do so, the job will expire, and task will get reallocated.
